VELA Engineering Program
Build: VELA Drone
Build, fly, and understand the machines that are shaping the future.
A hands-on drone engineering curriculum for learners who want to go beyond flying drones and actually understand how they work: the electronics, the firmware, the physics, and the engineering decisions behind every component. VELA stands for Vehicle Engineering, Launch and Application.
The VELA Drone
- Your first drone, assembled and configured: frame, motors, ESCs, and flight controller
- ArduCopter firmware with PID settings tuned for stable, semi-autonomous flight
- An autonomous waypoint-navigation system driven by a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W companion computer
Designed for learners aged 15 and older with an interest in engineering, electronics, or technology. You do not need prior experience with drones. A curiosity for how things work and a willingness to build with your hands is all you need to get started.
Level Progression
Level 1: Flight Fundamentals
The core principles of drone mechanics, electronics, and manual flight. Assemble and configure your first drone, learn how ESCs, motors, and flight controllers communicate, and fly with confidence.
